Teachers2Teachers - Practical Classroom Tips
Works4Me is a collection of practical classroom tips from teachers to share their ideas with other teachers, like this one:

From Janet Keohane, a fifth-sixth grade teacher in Beach, North Dakota:

"I involve my students in an ongoing contest to see who can find the most nouns, adjectives, words with four syllables, etc. from a list of words. I have them number and write their findings on a piece of adding machine tape that can be easily rolled into a scroll and attached with a paper clip to keep it in place. When winners are decided on the final day, I hang everyone's strip from the ceiling. The adding machine tape makes a great display of students' work and they enjoy the change of pace from using regular notebook paper."

The Homework Experience...
For many students, homework takes away a significant part of their time. Are they doing too much of homework? Or is it too little?? Read some interesting findings about "The Homework Experience" in a survey titled "The American Teacher" by MetLife.

Six in ten parents think that their child’s teachers assign the right amount of homework but an additional 25% think that too little homework is assigned!

What do the students say? Three-quarters of students (77%) believe that doing homework is important and seven in ten agree that doing homework helps them learn more in school. However, nine in ten students (89%) feel stressed about doing homework. The study says that about half of students spend about an hour a day for homework. But, somehow the homework time shrinks considerably when the American Idol is on TV!

Sign the Nation's Largest Thank You Card for Teachers!
What's the most appreciated gift by teachers?

While 30% of them may like a spa or other gift certificate, 48% of the teachers overwhelmingly say "Hearing the words 'Thank you' or receiving a thank you card" as the best gift from their students! Some teachers like to accept just an apple according to an Teacher Gift Online Poll in 2007 by the National Education Association (NEA), in which more than 2,500 teachers participated.

Inspired by the response, the NEA and the National Parent Teachers Association (PTA) are building the Nation's Largest Teacher Thank-You Card! All submissions will be compiled into a larger-than-life card that will be unveiled in Spring 2008 and travel to major cities throughout the year.

Web Weather for Kids
"The temperature reached a high of 37 degrees today. Will there be a snow tomorrow? I'll tell you after the break!" It's always nice to hear the weatherman in the TV channel talking about the weather with a cool weather map behind him. But, did you know that there's a colorful website: Web Weather for Kids where you can learn about hurricanes, tornadoes and clouds? You can also try your hands at weather forecasting and spend a few inquisitive minutes to play a couple of games... (Does any one know if this website is updated??)

New York Toy Fair 2008
For many children, toys are great companions. They do their homework while talking to them, they watch TV with their toy friends next to them, they bathe in their company and they go to bed with a dozen of them all around. Toys mean even more for kids in distress. That's why the non-profit organization KIDS distributes toys to distressed kids in USA and other countries.

Even you can donate a toy for a distressed kid when you visit the New York Toy Fair (February 17-20, 2008). The Toy Fair, the largest in the western hemisphere, features exhibitors from about 90 countries! Don't miss the The Inventor Center Pavilion featuring an array of new toy and game ideas created by hopeful inventors trying to break into the industry.
